Apart from the revelation that HRH estate the Duchy of Cornwall has been involved in offshore accounts we have not heard anything about Cornwall and the Paradise papers which is a pity. It’s a pity because if the super rich hide much of their wealth offshore and are not paying what most of us would consider a fair tax then they have more funds to invest in property in Cornwall. Indeed are there companies set up which do invest in housing in Cornwall which take advantage of the offshore accounts set up?
Whatever the case, the more cash the super rich have the more they can spend on purchasing houses and pushing house prices up.
Simply building more houses as the policy makers like will not solve the problem. But then its easier to push for more housing than to make it difficult for the super rich to exploit the system.
If we build more there will be plenty of ‘investment opportunities’ out there!
