The Housing White paper ‘Fixing our broken housing market’ includes the following statement.
4.43 Helping older people to move at the right time and in the right way could also help their quality of life at the same time as freeing up more homes for other buyers.
Ah yes the equivalent of bed blocking! But hang on, ‘everyone is entitled to own a second home’ so why not older people owning one? And no reference to ‘Helping second home owners, housing investors and leisure home owners to move at the right time and in the right way, at the same time as freeing up more homes for other buyers’
And if an older person were to downsize and move what would stop someone buying the property for other uses such as a second home?
There are parts of the housing market which are broken – the growth of second homes, leisure homes etc, about which the Government proposes to do NOTHING!
