Getting the figures wrong – again!

Official figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government showed that 118,760 homes were completed during the year [2014], an increase of 8% on the previous year but far below the 250,000 most experts say are needed to begin to tackle the country’s housing crisis.

But using these figures is misleading as new build does not account for all additions to the housing stock.

Other additions include – change of use and conversions.

And if we include these we find that there were an additional 136,000 dwellings in 2014.

Source: DCLG, Table 125: Dwelling stock estimates by local authority district: 2001 – 2015.

Oh and by the way the 250,000 figure quoted by ‘experts? Its based upon some dubious assertions and flawed data!
