Cornwall’s (non) housing shortage!

The dominant discourse, fostered and encouraged by developers and the property sector and supported by politicians and others who never look at the evidence, is that there is a housing shortage therefore we must build more houses!

The evidence does not support this assertion.

In Cornwall between 1981 and 2011 the number of households went up from 161,000 to 230,000, an additional 69,000.

the number of dwellings went up from 180,000 to 259,000, an additional 79,000.

Thats 10,000 more dwellings than households!
