A number of comments on the ‘Its Our Cornwall’ blog have come out in support of building more houses.
About time they built extra housing so that my generation can stay and work in the county instead of being forced to move away due to lack of housing!
The need for more houses is there to force the price of them down so buyers or private renters are not getting ripped off wages in Cornwall do not match house prices
The problem is that the housing market in Cornwall is disconnected from dealing with housing need.
Developers are pushing for building more houses not because they will meet local needs but because they can be marketed and sold – sold to people who fancy a move to Cornwall and have the funds to pay high purchase prices; sold to investors who see housing as an investment. And of course there is the ‘demand’ for property for second homes and holiday lets which developers and estate agents are only to happy to encourage.
No sorry folks simply increasing the supply of houses is not the solution!
