Doubtless motorists in Truro will be over-joyed at the news that the recently installed bus lane on Tregolls Road is to be ‘suspended’ – in reality ended.
It appears that contrary to forecasts that the bus lane would assist traffic flows with the introduction of the Waitrose out of town park and ride, the opposite turned out to be the case.
But what is the real problem? Well too many people are encouraged to shop or work in Truro hence traffic levels continue to rise. Park and ride rather than being part of the solution are part of the problem. They encourage more people to travel to Truro. The reduction in traffic from a park and ride site to the city centre is limited and short-term.
The only realistic alternative is to introduce traffic demand management – which would involve higher car parking charges; public transport direct from one town to another and; rejecting development proposals that increase housing levels!
