Climate change and energy policy

The Governments energy policy despite proclaiming a need to deal with climate change actually makes it far harder to achieve that objective.

Support for renewables such as solar and wind turbines is to be cut on the grounds of cost yet the fossil fuel sector continues to get subsidies and ‘fracking’ for shale gas is openly supported.

The Government lacks any credible energy policy which is unsurprising as all of its other policies reflect those of climate change deniers – encouraging road and air travel, accommodating population and housing growth, sustaining an economy that depends on consumption regardless of the impact on the environment.
