According to an item on BBC Spotlight last Wednesday the Newquay Aerohub has resulted in the creation of 230 jobs.
This figure can be contrasted with the predictions made in 2011.
This is very good news for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly” said Cornwall Council Leader Alec Robertson and Chris Ridgers, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration. “This area is one of the largest development sites in the South West, with the Newquay Aerohub Enterprise Zone potentially delivering over 700 jobs in direct aerospace and a further 375 in the wider economy over the next five years.
What does it mean?
1) Its difficult to predict job outcomes from development proposals;
2) With the best of intentions a development may never reach its jobs objective;
3) We should be wary of any figures released when a development proposal is brought forward.
