News that the Carland Cross to Chiverton and Temple stretches of the A30 are to be dualled may well make the hearts of motorists flutter with delight and road building aficionados as well.
But thoughts of less congestion and economic boom are misplaced. The evidence points to new road space leading to more traffic and all that extra traffic will just jam up somewhere else! Yes more road space encourages more people to travel more often. Within a short space of time there will be calls to ‘improve’ other roads, its a never ending pointless activity.
And as we know with more housing planned there will be even more traffic on the roads as residents, new and old scuttle from one cluster of superstores to another. Sorry folks it would be better investing in rail and bus not encouraging road use!
