The TCPA produced a report last year on levels of housing need for England. The details are:
Town & Country Planning, Tomorrow Series Paper 16, ‘new estimates of housing demand and need in England, 2011 to 2031’, by Alan Holmans.
An interesting read and also quite a lot of contributions from readers.
The full report can be found at:
Our initial response is that the report takes too much notice of household projections in arriving at potential future trends. We know that projections can be incorrect and that they assume that policies which are currently in operation will continue into the future. The report seems to have difficulty in reconciling the 2011 census results with past projections – not accepting that the projections had been giving the wrong message!
It should be noted that the TCPA is firmly rooted in a population growth is good and we must build more houses discourse which fails to accept the many other factors which determine housing ‘demand’.
