As we have stated in previous blogs there is a major issue around the use of figures. We all know the situation – 200 extra jobs, 1000 extra houses, increased output of £100 million.
Lets stop and think about this. The total figure, whatever it is does not tell the full story. We should think of the variables as consisting of three components:
Replacements (catering for job losses); catch up (jobs to accommodate the growth in jobseekers as the population rises); and, additional jobs (those jobs which are created in addition to the jobs available to the existing workforce).
There you have it, a more meaningful assessment of the figures!
