The leisure homes sector has a pernicious effect on housing in Cornwall – pushing prices up above their natural level, removing housing from the residential sector and leading to the segmentation of the housing market with poorer residents becoming more concentrated in the urban areas – often in high density developments.
Analysis of data of self-catering dwellings gives a figure of approximately 7,000 dwellings in the holiday lets sector. We now find a figure of 8,348 according to data released by Councillor Wallis.
Thats a lot of dwellings. Unsurprising as we know the housing development sector is quite happy to build more houses for this sector.
