The recent post about Padstow alluded to the number of second homes – lets look at some figures!
Between 2001 and 2011 the number of household spaces rose by 231 (1729 to 1960)
The number with residents fell by 164
The number without residents (second homes, holiday lets and vacant) rose by 395!
A good example of extra houses being made
available built but fewer for people to live in!
Penzance shows a similar pattern.
An extra 665 housing spaces between 2001 and 2011, and,
- 94 were used to house people with 571 were not!
So it’s not that houses are not being built in Penzance its just that the leisure sector sucks most of them into its orbit!
