The controversial planning application for land at Pennygillam, Launceston went before Cornwall Council’s strategic planning and was approved by 20 votes to 1 at Cornwall Council’s strategic planning committee on 4th July.
This will see a 60,000sq ft supermarket and petrol filling station built and outline permission given for 275 homes, a 60-bedroomed hotel, public house, coffee shop and a fast food restaurant.
It is stated that there will be more than £1 million of benefits for the town, on top of the 392 new full and part-time jobs.
- That is an increase in housing in the town of 7% – quite a lot for a small town
- 392 might sound like a lot of jobs but we can be sure a significant number will be part-time. The total full-time equivalent job number will be far lower.
- There will be about 275 jobseekers – the ‘new’ jobs will meet their needs they are NOT extra jobs!
[Oh and there are already 246 properties without residents in the Town!].
